Trail Marking

Trail Description:

A very pleasant trail that passes through sections of the small towns of Torre de Roveri and Albano Sant Alessandro, outside of Bergamo. Easy enough for those moderately fit, this slightly rustic trail meanders through town and country, woods, vineyards, and fields, over streams and hills, and includes a couple of well-known pilgrimage churches on the ridge-line overlooking the local towns.

Sports center and fields, Via Giovanni XXIII, Torre de Roveri, from the parking lot

Torre de Roveri: Via Papa Giovanni XXIII

Torre de Roveri: V. Don Stefano Mangili, a couple of improved medium lots, either by the cemetery or the town hall

Albano Sant Alessandro: V. Valle D’Albano, an unimproved parking lot for hikers. See Comment below.

Public Transportation Options:

Rail: Local trains serve Albano Sant Alessandro, with frequent service to Bergamo, or Brescia to the east

Torre de Roveri: V. Papa Giovanni XXIII, V. Ugo Foscolo, V. Monte Grappa, V Antonio Gramsci-V. Valle D’Albano, at unimproved parking lot take path through forest, intersection CAI 626, Monte S. Giorgio; Following CAI 626 to Monti di Argon, Church; V. Collina Alta, path along vines to Restaurants La Bironda and Cerri, path to V. Serradesca, past V. Maffioli, then Tenuta Serradesca di Ma Acquaroli; Loc Casotto/Negrone: V. Loc Casotto, through forest, then vineyards, downhill to trees on edge of vines/fields toward rear of cemetery; Torre de Roveri: past front of cemetery, V. Don Stefano Mangli, V. Papa Giovanni XXIII.

A couple of wineries along the trail. Cantina Bergamasca, a local cooperative, is in nearby San Paolo d’Argon.

Comments:

The marking also refers to another path, CAI 626, and may misdirect hikers of this trail onto that one once the two trails diverge. (Which may account for the lack of signage on the rest of the trail back down into Torre de Roveri.)

As an alternative to the official start by the sports center and fields on Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, I began at the local park (on the trail) parking lot found about 500 yards (440 meters) down Via Valle d’Albano. Good to know should the sports center parking lot be full due to a sporting event.
