Trail Description: Great, convenient circuit through wine villages and vineyards at Stuttgart’s backdoor. Stops for food and drink, and sites of enological interest are included in this well-thought-out itinerary. Mostly all uphill for the first half, and the Untertuerkheim to Obertuerkheim section, it is nonetheless doable for even occasional hikers.

Obertuerkheim: Augsburgerstr (close to train station – note parking restrictions/requirements)

Untertuerkheim:

Next to the train station, off Arlbergstr (free on Sundays, but metered and time-restricted otherwise)

Street parking by canal, on Zum Oelhafen, unmetered and untimed

Public Transportation Options:

Bus: Bus 61 (VVS) links Rotenberg with Unter- and Ober-Tuerkheim and Uhlbach

Rail: S-bahn from Stuttgart: S1 line direction Kirchheim or Ploechingen to Ober- or Unter-Tuerkheim

Obertuerkheim: Kirchsteige-Cemetery; Uhlbach: Aekerlesweg-Alte Kelter, Luise Benger Strasse, Vineyards, Goetzenbergstr-Markgraeflerstr, (detour to Grabkapelle/Mausoleum on Wuerttembergstr), Im Graben-Rainstr, Vineyards, Collegium Wirtemberg, vineyards; Untertuerkheim: foot bridge over Rotenberger Steige, vineyards, Dautenfels (rock outcropping), cemetery, Kirchsteige.

Untertuerkheim: Arlbergstr, next to the train station

Uhlbach: Asangstr, opposite the bus stop/cemetery, a kiosk set in the bus turn area

Rotenberg: Wuerttembergstr (by intersection with Stettener Strasse), opposite the bus stop

Attractions on or near the Trail:

Villa Kayser, and park: Obertuerkheim, Uhlbacherstr, impressive villa

Alte Kelter: Uhlbacherstr, Uhlbach, historic winery has Museum of Viticulture, and wine, on offer

Weinlehrpfad: In vineyards outside Uhlbach

Grabkapelle: Rotenberg, a chapel and mausoleum in neo-classical style for the reigning family at the time.

Weinlehrpfad (a wine learning path with signboards in German): In vineyards just beyond the Collegium Wirtemberg

This is a fantastic circuit to follow if you find yourself in Stuttgart and want to visit bucolic hills planted with vineyards within the city limits.
