Trail Description: A middle difficulty bicycle circuit trail through the rural landscape of the “Land of 1000 Hills”, that circles, then ascends and descends a locally well-known viticultural zone, the Heuchelberg. Agriculture is the main industry here. Not surprisingly therefore, in addition to passing through a significant amount of wooded area, this trail passes through fields, as well as through vineyards, one of which has a wine education trail.

Kleingartach: Zabergaeustr (x Balzstr)

Parking:

Kleingartach: Balzstr, a small lot (a few yards off the official start)

Eppingen: Bahnhofstr and Heilbronnerstr, a couple of large lots; Rappenauerstr, small lot

Stetten: Hauptstr x Wiesenrainweg, a large dirt lot

Schwaigern (outskirts): Off K2151, Waldparkplatz, a large lot at the top of the trail

Schwaigern: Liominstr by Im Kohlwinkel: over a dozen perpendicular spaces along the street

Schwaigern: Stettener and Mozartstr, street-side parking spots and small parking lots

Public Transportation Options:

Bus: Various HNV Heilbronner Verkehrsverbund (HNV) buses serve the towns and villages on this route. Of particular note: 672 serving Kleingartach to Schwaigern

Rail: The HNV light rail S4 line conveniently serves Heilbronn and points west, including Leingarten, Schwaigern, Stetten and Eppingen

Kleingartach: Leintalstr-Hagstr, under Castle Leinburg, woods; Schillerplatz monument, more woods; Eppingen: Waldstr-bridge over rail tracks-Bahnhofstr, Kleinbruckentorplatz, Altstadtring, path along Elsenz River, Lanzstr, path along B293, fields; Stebbach (Gemmingen): Kelterberg, past Church and cemetery, Hinterestr-Hauptstr-Oststr, cross B293 into fields; Stetten Am Heuchelberg: Kraichgaustr-Bahnhofstr-Hauptstr-Jahnstr-Austr, parallel the Lein creek; Schwaigern: cross rail tracks, Karl-Wagenplast-Str, Schnellerstr (path and street), cross rail tracks-traffic circle, Heilbronnerstr-Industriestr-Steinhaeldenstr, woods on hill; Neipperg (outskirts): Klingenweg, circle a pond, and up a hill into vineyards, then woods; Eichbuehl summit; South on L1107-Heuchelbergstr, past Galgenfeld, cross K2063, then L1110; Along a high plateau; Kleingartach: downhill, past 2 farms, right onto Maulbronnerstr.

Kleingartach: Weinbaustube, a museum in the old Rathaus dedicated to the history of wine making in this smallest town of Wuerttemberg

Eppingen: Museum, with exhibits covering regional life and history as well as half-timbered house work, for which the city of Eppingen is well-known.

Stetten: Winzerhof Schmid, Hornbuschhoefe

Schwaigern: Heuchelberg Weingaertner, Neippergerstr, and Weingut Graf Neipperg, Schlossstr

Neipperg/ Brackenheim: Zum Raedle and Winzercafe Neipperg,

Alternative Options:

Hiking: The Weinwanderung am Heuchelberg KR1 from Eppingen to Leingarten follows some of the bike trail above, and is easily accessible from Heilbronn using the S4 line to Eppingen, with linking access trails to Stetten and Schwaigern train stations, to shorten this 21-kilometer trail.

Car: The 496-kilometer Wuerttemberger Weinstrasse’s western-most section from Leingarten through Schwaigern to Neipperg, covers this area, and obviously a lot more.
